Pssst! Want to know how to turn your bed into the comfiest of all this winter?

Here at OHS, we know just how important it is to curate the best bed set up to ensure you get a deep, undisturbed sleep and during the cooler months, that means making it warm and snuggle-worthy.

Keep on reading to find out the options for designing a toasty sanctuary to retreat to after a long hard day. Trust us, it will make the cold icy weather and the seemingly shorter days a lot more bearable...

 Winter Duvet

Perhaps the most obvious thing to consider when choosing your winter duvet is the tog rating. Upgrading to a thicker tog and switching out your summer duvet will help you stay super comfortable during the colder months.

If you do not know already, tog refers to the degree to which the duvet retains the heat and measures how warm it will keep you throughout the night. This means that the higher the tog, the warmer you will be, with 1 tog being very cool and lightweight and 15 being the toastiest.

Our Brentfords essentials duvets have been crafted with a polyester outer fabric and a hollow fibre filling. They are available in the following togs:

4.5 Tog - Suitable for summer

10.5 Tog - Suitable for all year round

13.5 Tog - Suitable for all year round

15 Tog - Suitable for winter

In most cases, the size of your bed dictates the size of duvet you use, however, in autumn and winter, it can sometimes help to have a bigger one. Just think...the bigger the duvet, the more you can wrap around you and keep out the cold air. Larger winter duvets make even more sense if you share your bed with a partner as you can hog more of the duvet without worrying about being scolded the next morning or even worse, during the middle of the night. Everyone is a winner!

Other Bedding & Throws

When it comes to creating the cushiest bed, layering is key and one of the best ways to heat up your sanctuary. This is because each bit of bedding you add essentially traps a layer of hot air and does not allow it to escape during the night.

This year, in particular, there has been a big focus on ultra-soft fabrics and natural textures like sherpa, sheepskin, and mohair as highlighted in our recent post on the ‘Key Interior Trends for Autumn Winter 2021’. Despite being a year-round staple in 2021, these furry fabrics will be making even more of an appearance in homes during the colder seasons for obvious reasons!

Our luxurious Brentfords teddy fleece duvet cover set, a firm OHS customer favourite, is, therefore, the perfect snuggly foundation for later piling on a bunch of throw blankets and pillows. Made from super soft-touch polyester and available in a range of modern colours and patterns, it looks ideal in any bedroom and provides insane levels of comfort.

As an extra undetected layer, we advise slipping our Dreamscene waterproof mattress protector underneath your fitted sheet. The surface of the protector is made of absorbent towelling material whilst the backing is 100% PU. This plastic barrier ensures that your mattress is both protected from sweat and stains and unable to circulate air throughout the bed as well. Thus, the warmth you have trapped and generated under the covers will not be whisked away via the mattress.

To seal the deal and add the ultimate finishing touch, drape on a throw blanket or a weighted blanket, both of which we offer in our infamous teddy fleece fabric! Not quite sure whether a weighted blanket will help you drift off? Have a look at our recent post ‘5 Reasons Why Our Weighted Blanket May Help You’ here.

If you are not feeling our teddy range, opt for our Brentfords waffle fleece duvet cover set instead and top off your centrepiece with the Dreamscene waffle mink throw in a complimentary or contrasting shade.

Alternatively, stay on trend by snatching the Highams mohair throw (new shades have just dropped!) or one of our Dreamscene/Brentfords sherpa fleece throws...

Bedtime Routine Tips

Besides building a bed set up that is as snug as possible, you will want to slightly switch up your bedtime routine as well. Adapting your pre-bed rituals to the colder seasons will not only help you to feel warmer at night but also enjoy a more restful night’s sleep.

To improve your circulation before bed, try some light yoga that is not too demanding and could cause the opposite to your desired effect. Should you be a beginner when it comes to the practice, have a look at our blog post here on the ‘5 Must-Know Yoga Poses for Beginners’.

Is Yoga not your vibe? Try channelling another of the key interior trends for autumn/winter 2021 by creating a spa feeling in your very own bathroom. Add a steam function to your or simply treat yourself to a hot bath amongst scented candles.

Once you emerge, throw on a pair of OHS fluffy socks and a cosy combo from our loungewear collection to complete your spa experience.
