International Dog Day, since in founding in 2004, takes place on the 26th of August and celebrates dogs internationally. According to its founder, Colleen Paige, the day in question is an opportunity to recognise the number of dogs that need to be rescued every single year as well as honour those four-legged friends that help us in life. Dogs act as security of all of us. They protect families and homes, and act as companions to the blind and disabled. They can be used to detect conditions from impending seizures to cancer. They are trusted in alleviating feelings of loneliness among us humans, reducing stress and encouraging physical activity. On the more extreme end, dogs often help to locate victims of tragedy and detect bombs!

So, for all they do for us, it only makes sense to give back to man’s best friend every once in a while. What is it that your dog loves?
