Outerwear: Style for Every Eventuality
As the seasons begin to shift, there’s always that sense of optimism in the air. The days feel a little lighter, the weather a little warmer, and suddenly we are inspired to spend more time outdoors. Of course, this is the UK, where the weather can change in an instant. One moment there are clear blue skies, and the next the heavens have opened and you’re soaked to the bone.
That’s why this year, in my house, we have decided to prepare for every weather eventuality, due to past experiences. It doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as investing in a couple of key outerwear pieces. Theres no need to worry I have got you covered and will give you a few tips and examples of how I tackled the UK weather so far this year, so everyone can feel prepared. Lately, the family and I have been enjoying outdoor adventures — scaling mountains and heading out on forest walks. Well, not all of us… if the oldest had it his way, he’d be playing video games all day. On a couple of occasions, we have been caught out in the cold, especially my little one. One second, she is running around, the next she is huddled up next to me ready to go home.
That’s when I decided to buy OHS Fleece Jackets for all the family. They are perfect for the unpredictable UK weather, not too warm to the point where, if the sun comes out, you are roasting, but thick enough to keep the cold at bay. I went for the Teddy Geometric Print Half Zip Fleece, which looks great and feels like it goes with every outfit. For my little one I bought the Bow Print Half Zip Fleece, as she loves pink, and it has also come in handy helping me keep track of her due to the bright colour.
Every morning, I take the dog out for a walk, whatever the weather. Even when it’s pouring with rain, there’s no getting out of it, so having outerwear that is easy to throw on, comfortable and simple to clean is essential, especially when the dog inevitably gets muddy and decides to flick it all over me. This is where my newfound love for OHS Drying Robes comes in. The oversized fit and sherpa lining keep me warm and comfortable, while the water-resistant outer layer keeps me dry and is easy to wipe clean.
The drying robes have also come in handy on other occasions, such as trips to the beach. After a dip in the sea, the sherpa lining helps wick moisture away from the body, making it the perfect piece for any water enthusiast. They are also ideal for getting changed thanks to their oversized fit, which provides extra privacy.
Sometimes it’s nice to have pieces that work as both loungewear and outerwear, letting you pop to the shops without worrying about being underdressed. I feel like cardigans are one of those effortless staples. Soft, cosy, and easy to layer, they’re perfect for lounging at home but still polished enough to throw on over leggings or jeans for a quick coffee run. A teddy-style cardigan, especially, gives you that comfort-first feel while still looking put together — ideal for those in-between weather days when you’re not sure what the sky has planned.
At the end of the day, living in the UK means expecting the unexpected. But being prepared doesn’t mean overthinking it. A few key outerwear pieces can make all the difference between cutting a day short and making the most of it. For us, it’s about comfort, practicality and having options ready by the door — all whilst still looking stylish.
