Autumn is upon us! Well, not quite, the official start of autumn in the UK is actually next Wednesday, but that is good enough for us to start turning our homes into cosy havens. And what better to help ease in the season than the biggest interior trends?

With 2020 and 2021 being such testing years, it is no surprise that most of the trends are a reflection of some of the more permanent changes caused by the pandemic. As people are spending more time in their homes, there is even more of a need and want to invest in comfort, colour and escapism, these as central themes throughout.

Below we reveal a handful of the key interior trends for Autumn/Winter 2021 that we think are worth considering, whether you decide to dabble with them or not...

Interior Trend Autumn/Winter 2021: Soft Fabrics and Natural Textures

Trend 1: Natural Textures

This year, there has been a big focus on ultra-soft fabrics and natural textures like sherpa, sheepskin, and mohair. Despite being a year-round staple in 2021, these furry fabrics will be making even more of an appearance in homes during the colder seasons for obvious reasons! They bring lots of warmth without the need for colour and this makes incorporating them into your home super easy since they won’t disrupt your existing decor. Sophisticated and chic but still cosy!

To channel this trend, we recommend the mohair throw range from our Highams collection, it is made from soft acrylic and is available in the neutral shades of light grey and charcoal grey, or if you are open to a pop of colour, duck egg and blush pink. Should mohair not be your texture of choice, we also offer a range of plush teddy fleece throws and bedding, again made in a variety of colours, that will help modernise your home during the season.

Interior Trend Autumn/Winter 2021: Earthy Colours

Trend 2: Earthy Colours

In terms of colour this season, natural, earthy toned colour palettes and pigments are proving super popular, and have quickly become one of the hottest colour trends for interiors in 2021. Dulux forecasted the trend, hitting the nail on the head, and revealed their Colour of the Year to be Brave Ground, which is a modern take on taupe. The UK’s leading paint brand suggests using the shade to soften deeper colours of blue and green, combined with other neutrals or paired with bold reds and pinks.

Let us help you feel grounded in the bedroom with our Brentfords washed linen duvet cover set in navy or liven up your living space using the Dreamscene faux fur mink throw in emerald green. For the lighter end of the colour palette, go for our Dreamscene waffle mink throw in cream or select the Brentfords reversible plain duvet cover in mink/cream.

Interior Trend Autumn/Winter 2021: Spa at Home

Trend 3: Spa at Home

Before you get too carried away injecting your home with colour, make sure to take time to take care of yourself this Autumn. As the days get shorter and the nights get cooler, you will inevitably find yourself in need of a little extra TLC, so why not indulge in the third trend on our list, by creating a spa feeling in your very own home!

Bathrooms have long been the preferred place to retreat after a long day but that desire has become bigger. Add a steam function to your shower or simply treat yourself to a hot bath amongst scented candles. To complete your spa experience, do not forget to pick up some new luxuriously soft Brentfords 100% cotton bath sheets and our towelling dressing gown for a warm embrace after you step out of the water…

Interior Trend Autumn/Winter 2021: Mix Checks & Stripes

Trend 4: Checks & Stripes

Intimidated by the thought of mixing patterns and them potentially clashing? Do not fear, have fun and experiment! Checks and stripes are arguably everyone’s two favourite classic patterns and this trend is all about combining them, the idea being that you make sure they do not match. Yes, that is right - no matching!

You can easily achieve this by mixing up different scales, seasonal colours and styles of these patterns until you create the perfect balance. Take a striped duvet, like our Brentfords satin stripe duvet cover set, then pile on some more pattern in the form of cushions and throws. The Dreamscene tartan check fleece throw, in particular, is the ideal finishing touch for your centrepiece of a bed.

Interior Trend Autumn/Winter 2021: Home Offices

Trend 5: Home Offices

We are sure some of you already had a home office but with the pandemic, you have likely spent a lot more time in there the past 18 months, perhaps more than you ever have! As a result, our ways of working have changed drastically and for many, home workspaces are here to stay. With this, we are seeing makeshift desk setups being re-designed and transformed into private dedicated spaces, including desks and workspaces as part of bedrooms, living rooms and dining rooms.

To freshen up and add further comfort to your home office this season, wherever it may be, pop a cosy throw nearby or over your desk chair. An influencer-fave product of ours is the Sienna sheepskin faux fur sheepskin rug in white, as although it is designed to provide underfoot warmth, it can be styled on your seating to make a statement as well.

Interior Trend Autumn/Winter 2021: Maximalism

Trend 6: Maximalism

Tired of Scandi style minimalism that has dominated interiors over the past decade? Us too! This year, we are glad to see the major return of highly decorative and personal interiors with the maximalism trend. Homeowners are ditching ‘less is more’ and embracing ‘more is more’: more pattern, more texture and more colour. This style takes careful planning to achieve the desired look, the key being to pick one or two common tones to pull your eclectic mix of patterns together.

Our Dreamscene Kruger duvet cover set is the perfect way to introduce this trend into your home as it features not only purple leopard print but also zebra and giraffe print, animal print as a common thread in maximalist interiors. Although if animal prints are not quite your vibe, inject floral elements into your space instead with the help of our Dreamscene English Rose duvet cover set. Once you have got patterns covered, opt for tactile textures to layer around the room, and moody tones that create a sense of drama in your space.
