The duvets are available in various sizes and togs, from 4.5 all the way through to 15 togs whereas our pillows are available in one standard size and for now, one level of support. Synthetic duvets and pillows like ours are easier to wash, quick to dry, and ultimately easy to care for, these are also often a better option for those with allergies.

Choosing the right duvet and pillows is super important to allow for a great night's sleep all year round so follow our buying guide below...

Duvets

The size of your bed tends to dictate the size of the duvet you should use, there are standard dimensions that are made to fit and match up with the size of beds of the same name (e.g. Double). If you like extra coverage or you share your bed with someone else, you may want to try buying the next size up. Otherwise, buying your bedding in the same size as your bed will cover you sufficiently.

It is best to switch out your duvet depending on the season, size of the bed or age of the person sleeping in it. However, if you can not decide or would like to make things more simple for yourself, you can go for a duvet that is flexible and suitable all year round!

Togs Explained

What does tog mean, I hear you ask. Tog refers to the degree to which the duvet retains the heat and measures how warm it will keep you throughout the night. This means that the higher the tog, the warmer you will be, with 1 tog being very cool and lightweight and 15 being the toastiest.

Although we can be personal in our choice of a duvet as adults, younger children are limited as they require low tog ratings. Young children can easily become overwhelmed with a thicker duvet and can potentially overheat as they get warmer quicker than older children and adults. It is generally advised that you aim for a tog rating lower than 10.5 when buying for them.

Tog Ratings

4.5 Tog - Suitable for Summer
A lighter duvet is perfect for use during the summer months or in a warmer room. Duvets made of synthetic fibers are particularly better during this season as they are typically found to be more breathable.

Pillows

There are many indicators that it is time to replace your pillow, everything from a buildup of skin cells to general wear and tear, bearing the weight of your head night after night will inevitably cause your pillow to flatten in spots. The rule of thumb is to replace your pillow every 1 to 2 years, depending on the quality and the type of pillow. When your pillow starts to become saggy and lumpy, you should absolutely start shopping for a new one.

Choosing the best type of pillow for you depends largely on your sleeping position. Once you’ve decided which type of pillow is most suited to you and your sleeping habits, another important thing to consider is how many pillows you need.

Although many people can’t bear to sleep without a carefully curated array of pillows around them, it is advised to only stick to using one at a time due to the effect it has on your posture.

Regardless of your preferred sleeping position, it is always recommended to keep the natural alignment of the spine and your head level with the rest of your body.

Soft Pillow - Stomach Sleeper
Pillows for front sleepers should be a soft to medium comfort level. This is to keep the natural alignment of the spine without raising your head too much. The soft fillings ensure your head sinks into the pillow rather than staying at an unnatural angle all night. Some experts mention placing another pillow under your shoulder for proper spine alignment.

Medium-firm Pillow - Back/Side Sleeper
If you’re a side or a back sleeper, you will generally want to opt for a medium to firm support pillow. A pillow on the firmer side provides adequate support for your head, bridging the gap between your neck and shoulders, and overall helps to keep your spine aligned. We, therefore, suggest that those suffering from neck aches and pain try our pillows for a more comfortable night’s sleep.

You can purchase either a 2 pack or a 4 pack of our Brentfords Medium Support pillows for amazing value…
