The best material for a parasol is something that is water resistant, tear resistant and is durable to weather conditions. Polyester is a great choice for garden umbrellas and parasols for this reason. 

Although polyester garden parasols will be water and tear resistant, it’s not advised to leave any parasol out in heavy rain or strong winds. Simply fold up your parasol and place it in your garage or garden storage until the tougher weather conditions pass. 

The main things to consider when choosing a garden parasol or umbrella is the size and the purpose. If you’re looking to cover a large area of your garden, then a sunshade would be the best option. If covering part of your patio near to your house is what you’re looking for, a retractable awning would work well. 

For more traditional garden umbrellas and parasols, the main thing to consider is whether you want one with a pole that will go through the middle of your garden furniture table, or whether you want one with a freestanding frame to the side so no hole in your garden furniture is required. 

Then, all that is left to decide is the colour of your cheap parasol to suit the aesthetic of your garden. Consider other features like built-in lighting on your parasol to add extra atmosphere to your outdoor space.

We would recommend cleaning your garden umbrella at the start and end of every summer to keep it in the best condition. Create a mixture of warm soapy water and use a soft sponge to wipe over the top and bottom of your garden parasol. If any areas have a lot of mildew, use a soft bristle brush on these areas. Rinse very well and allow to dry fully before putting away. It’s preferable to clean your parasol umbrella on a sunny day so it dries quickly.

When you’re not using your patio umbrella, it’s best to keep it in your garage or in garden storage to help prolong its life. Ideally your cheap parasol will be completely dry before you collapse it to prevent water sitting in the pleats. Wrapping your large parasol with either heavy plastic or an umbrella cover will help to provide that extra layer of protection for the winter months.
